Cranial Sacral Therapy

Gentle touch and non-intrusive techniques

Cranial Sacral Therapy

By Marci Howard May

Some of the most effective bodywork is often experienced when applied with the gentlest of touch, and is able to be performed when you are comfortably clothed.

When a therapist performs Cranial Sacral Therapy, they are using gentle touch and non-intrusive techniques to release areas of restriction in the craniosacral system. Sagestone wished to deepen our therapists experience in this highly beneficial modality, and brought in Heath & Nicole Reed, founders of Living Metta, who have over 20 years of experience instructing therapists, and have studied with the greatest healing masters across the globe. Not only did our team expand their knowledge in Cranial Sacral Methods, they shared experiences with this couple who are passionate about the idea that loving kindness is essential to every part of human experience, and integrates this concept into all of their teachings.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is not a typical massage. It is performed with you remaining dressed in loose comfortable clothing, or yoga wear. You can expect gentle energy work with light touch to the bones of the skull and sacrum. The benefits of this calming touch therapy has been shown to relieve a number of issues, such as reducing neck pain, low back pain, migraine headaches, emotional stress and trauma.

How it works, is that the craniosacral system produces a rhythm, much like respiration, that is called the cranial rhythm or cranial wave. This wave undulates outward and inward in ripples from the deepest to the most superficial layers of the body's fascia. Fascia is the body's interwoven fabric which connects every muscle, bone, organ, gland and cell. When performing optimally, the craniosacral system flows freely, without restriction, nourishing the body with energy and fluids to help the body naturally heal.

The therapists at Sagestone have been trained to understand the cranial wave and use it as a tool to discover areas of restriction in the body. The therapist will then work using light touch to relieve the blockage that is impeding the body's natural rhythm and contributing to areas of pain or stress. By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body's ability to self-correct, Cranial Sacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions.

Our therapists are delighted to offer this therapy that is highly impactful in easing pain, and provided in the most comfortable of environments.
