What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is at 3 pm Mountain Time and check-out is at Noon.

What should I expect to pay in gratuities?

You may choose to add an automatic nightly gratuity through your reservation agent prior to arrival, or through Guest Services at check-in. We suggest $35 per person per night of stay for those on the Retreat packages, and this will conveniently cover your gratuities for everything except one-on-one services and wine or beer service. If you elect not to take advantage of automatic gratuity option, you can add gratuity nightly during dining service, and at the end of your stay, you can add gratuity for individual team members on your guest folio. Gratuity envelopes are also available. All one-on-one services such as spa & salon services, adventure trips, personal trainers, personal guide experiences will give you the opportunity to sign for gratuity. A gratuity equaling 15-20% of the service fee is suggested.

What if I am just starting to exercise? Will there be easier classes for me?

Yes. Many of our classes offer beginning levels with enhanced options to step it up a notch....all within the same class.

I’m not an extreme athlete. How difficult are the outdoor adventure activities?

Red Mountain has something for all levels. All our guides are experienced, professional and attentive. We make sure all our guests are well-equipped and safe at all times.

What are the levels of the hikes and how long are they?

There are two levels of hikes that are offered every day and a third level on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; ascending from beginner (Explorer), intermediate (Challenge) and expert (Endurance). Level increases are based upon pace, terrain and distance. Note: morning hikes are considered group activities; therefore, pace may be subject to change.

Daily guided hikes generally last two to three hours depending on the level and hike offered that day. Return time is orchestrated to coincide with the morning stretch classes.

Advance sign-up is required in person at Outdoor Recreation no later than 6 pm the night before the hike.

I have never hiked before. Will I be able to go?

Yes. We offer varied levels of hiking. We even have a fun Pound Puppy walk, where we travel to our local shelter and each guest will enjoy a morning walk in the company of a pound dog.

How are the Adventure Hikes different from the Daily Guided Hikes?

Daily guided hikes are complimentary and in the surrounding area. Adventure hikes are available for a fee. These specialized hikes range from Zion National Park to Snow Canyon State Park and include additional one-on-one time with your guide.

If I go on the hike will I return in time for the morning classes?

Yes.

Do you hike in the winter?

We do hike and bike year round, enjoying mild desert Southwest temperatures. Winter morning temperatures can begin in the low 20’s and move into the 40’s by the end of the hike. Summer months may begin in the 70’s and end in the 100’s.

Will the daily morning hikes be repeated during my stay?

It depends on how long you stay. Hikers who remain at the same level will do a different hike each day of the week over a one-week period. This information is dependant on weather and trail conditions.

What’s the hiking like in Zion National Park?

Hiking in Zion may well become the highlight of your trip. This day adventure offers awe-inspiring hiking in historic Zion, one of the world’s most famous geologic wonders. It is a wonderful day in a stunning location. The trip allows for sightseeing to very aggressive hiking and everything in between. Certified and knowledgeable guides will help you determine the ideal trails for your adventure needs.

Lunch will be provided by the renown Canyon Breeze Restaurant. Your guides will finish off the day with a surprise ‘treat’ to top-off your adventure.

What do I wear for the hikes? What kind of shoes do I need and what else do I need to bring along?

Footwear- we recommend hiking boots for additional foot support and traction, however, close-toed runners with adequate traction will suffice. You will want to take a few things into consideration such as amount of tread on your shoe, comfort of shoe on rocky conditions and durability through sand, sandstone and lava rocks.

Seasonal clothing- wear layers to your comfort level (including jackets, gloves, and ear-covers in colder months.) Winter morning temperatures can begin in the low 20’s and move into the 40’s by the end of the hike. Summer months may begin in the 70’s and end in the 100’s.

Water- each guest is required to carry enough water for the duration of the hike preferably in a lightweight pack as we promote hands free hiking (drawstring packs are provided by the spa). A hydration pack, such as a CamelBak® is not required, but convenient, particularly for longer adventures.

Snacks, camera and sun protection (sunglasses, sunscreen and/or hats) are strongly encouraged during summer months.

Can I hike or bike in Snow Canyon State Park on my own?

Yes. You can purchase a day pass to Snow Canyon State Park for $3.19 from our Adventure Concierge. Hike into the park and spend the day on their scenic trails or use one of our bikes to enjoy the paved bike path.

Are there height and weight restrictions to outdoor activities?

For horseback riding, the maximum weight is 240 lbs. If you are over 175 lbs, you must meet certain height restrictions. For rappelling, the maximum waist measurement is 42 inches. The Adventure Concierge can assist you further.

Do I need to bring my own bike?

You can if you want, but Red Mountain is fully equipped with mountain and touring bikes, helmets and other gear. On our road-bike tours, our van will follow you, so if you poop out, you can hop in at any time.

Complimentary road cruisers are available to retreat package guests; $35 full day for a-la-carte guests. 2009 Giant road bikes are available for rent, contingent on regularly scheduled rides. Please contact Adventure Concierges for more information.

Do you have a pool?

We have an indoor pool open year round, and two outdoor seasonal pools.

Guest speakers and seasonal events such as star-gazing or full moon hiking are available.

I’m a vegetarian. Will there be enough choices for me?

Absolutely. We have plenty of vegetarian dishes, and if you’re vegan, kosher or have any specific dietary needs, our chef can accomodate you.

I have special food and diet needs – can you help me?

Yes. Please make your needs known to your reservation agent before your arrival. We can accommodate most special requests with 24 hour notice. If you request an item that is not currently on our menu or in our pantry, additional charges may apply.

What if I arrive after dinner?

Guests arriving after 8:30 pm will receive a light night snack upon arrival.

Is the tap water safe to drink?

Yes.

Is Red Mountain in a dry town?

Thankfully no. Considering how beneficial a glass of wine with dinner can be for the digestion, we offer a distinguished selection of fine wines and beers on the dinner menu at Canyon Breeze Restaurant.

I need to lose some weight, but would prefer to not be woken up by a bugle at the crack of dawn and thrown onto a treadmill. What kind of weight management program do you have?

We’re not like that here. We believe weight loss should be enjoyable – eat nutritious, good-tasting food and metabolize it doing activities you love. Our team of nutrition experts and personal coaches are here to guide and support you.

What’s the age range of the guests at Red Mountain?

Around 30–60. There’s something here for everyone, so you can come here with a spouse or a parent and find plenty to do, separately and together.
