Prepare Your Skin for Winter

There’s no question that the winter months can wreck havoc on your skin, but if you start using these skin-saving tips now, you’ll be in the clear when winter hits full-on.
Exfoliate. This is the key to revealing a healthy glow for both your body and your face. No matter how much moisture you give your skin, it can’t penetrate though dead cells. Chemical peels improve texture using a chemical solution that causes dead skin to peel off. Peels can improve acne prone skin, discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles and even mild rosacea. The end goal of all chemical peels is the same, to leave the skin regenerated, smoother and with a dewy, youthful glow.
Wear SPF. Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean the sun’s rays aren’t. Over time, sun exposure contributes to dryness and loss of elasticity. So remember to apply SPF daily, no matter the weather.
Stay Hydrated. To prevent dry winter skin, it’s vital to protect cellular water levels. Many are surprised to learn that caffeine and alcohol are major causes of dehydration, so try and limit your intake. Choose decaffeinated coffee and alternate water with cocktails to make sure your body is hydrated.
Switch up your skin care. You may need to adjust your skin-care regimen a bit during the winter months. Make sure to use a mild cleanser that’s non-drying with lactic acid and enzymes. And don’t skimp on the toner - a toner can help alleviate some dryness since it acts as an oil stimulant and helps get the sebaceous glands going. You’ll want to incorporate a serum too. Serums are able to penetrate deeper than a moisturizer, which usually helps more on the surface layer of the skin. Look for serums with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C for added benefits.
Body Wrap at Home

Do you love the benefits and relaxation that come from a full body wrap? You can do one yourself at home. You will need to begin with exfoliating your skin so the products will penetrate deeper into your skin and give you better results. You need plastic in some form to create a barrier that will make you sweat, opening your pores so your body can detoxify and absorb the product you have put on. You can use saran wrap, wrapping two to three layers on entire body, two painter’s drop cloths that you would lie between or garbage bags.
Warm a blanket in the dryer. Lay out your layers so you can quickly get cocooned. After exfoliating your skin, apply your product and then quickly get in plastic. Get under your warm layers and wrap into a cocoon for 15-20 minutes. The idea is to sweat, or at least be very warm. Have a spray bottle close and water with a straw to rehydrate. After the wrap time is up, remove your layers. If you chose a mud based product you will want to rinse off any residual product and apply a hydrating cream. If you used an oil based or herbal wrap you will simply rub in the remaining product. It is ideal to then rest for a few hours and drink plenty of water following your wrap so your body can continue to relax and detoxify.Add a comment

The women first crack the shells with sharp stones. They then place the kernels between two Flintstone-size slabs of rock, grinding them into a brown paste, which resembles chunky peanut butter. The paste, kneaded by hand to extract the oil, transforms into a solid hunk and is sent to nearby factories, mainly in Agadir, where more oil is extracted by a press. Epsom Salt Baths

Epsom Salt has been used for centuries as a curative for a variety of ailments. The benefits of Epsom Salt range from reducing inflammation, easing muscle pain and soreness, curing skin problems, healing cuts, detoxifying the body, reducing blood pressure, and a skin exfoliant for both face and body.
Epsom Salt, which is named after a spring at Epsom in Surrey, England, does not actually contain salt. It is a compound of magnesium and sulfate which occurs naturally and studies show this compound is readily absorbed through the skin.
Magnesium performs many functions in our body. It regulates over 325 enzymes, helps the production of serotonin, helps muscle and nerve function, increases energy and stamina by encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and is critical in the proper use of calcium in muscle contractions, thus its ability to ease muscle spasms. Sulfate helps flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells as well as improves the absorption of nutrients.
To use Epsom Salt put two cups in the bath and soak for at least 15 minutes. You can also add a little to your facial cleanser to exfoliate your face. Use it mixed with equal parts of oil to exfoliate your entire body. Soak your feet with a half cup of Epsom Salt to soothe achy feet, soften rough skin and eliminate odor.Add a comment

How do you take care of your body and your skin at the same time? It’s as simple as the amount of water you drink, the food you eat and your daily nutritional supplements. Taking care of your skin is not just what you do to it topically, but also what you put into our body. This helps build the base of health for skin and the body overall, promoting general wellness from within.
Omega-3 helps reduce acne and inflammation, and encourages more supple skin, leaving it more hydrated, softer and smoother. It helps create strong, healthy cells, which in turn, can help rejuvenate and renew skin for a more radiant look. Omega-3 DHA might delay or even prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and possibly other types of dementia. It is also highly beneficial for heart health as well as strengthening its position as an ultimate body-mind wellness nutrient.

Many of us know the importance of exfoliating our face to keep it looking young, radiant and even in tone. But, how many of us regularly exfoliate our entire body? Our skin, the body’s largest organ, performs many functions to keep us healthy. If we are not regularly exfoliating the dead skin layers that can clog the skin, those functions are impeded and dry skin can result. Also, your body products are not absorbing into anything but dead skin.
Full body exfoliation should be done at least once a week. If you are using a dry brush, loofah or exfoliating body gloves on dry skin it can be done up to daily. If you are using a salt or sugar scrub once a week should suffice. The benefits of doing a dry exfoliation include not just the dead skin removal but also stimulating the lymph to drain when the exfoliation is done from the feet up and arms down with light, short, brisk strokes. Using a salt or sugar scrub can provide a deeper exfoliation that leaves behind an oil to re-hydrate the skin, leaving it silky smooth. If you do not want to scrub or brush your skin, soak in milk (1 cup) and honey (1/2 cup) to gently exfoliate, soften and clean the skin.Add a comment

10 Do's & Don'ts for Your Spa Visit

Below are 10 ways to make the most from your spa visit.
- Feel free to ask questions about the services and what to expect from your spa experience.
- You may ask question about the qualifications and certifications of the therapists working in the spa.
- Please leave all personal items in your resort room or in your locker. We recommend that you do NOT wear any jewelry during your spa service.
- To preserve an ambiance of peace and tranquility, the spa is a cell phone free environment. Kindly turn off all cell phones prior to entering the spa. We ask that you speak quietly throughout the spa particularly in waiting areas and in treatment corridors.
- Please notify the spa concierge if you have high blood pressure, allergies, physical ailments, disabilities or are pregnant. While a few services should be avoided during pregnancy, there are treatments that can be enjoyed in the second and third trimester. When making your appointment, please notify the spa reservationist if you are pregnant so they can offer guidance. If you prefer a male or female therapist, please make your request when scheduling your treatment. Your information will be treated as confidential.
- Be aware that many spas will not accommodate anyone under the age of 18. Please advise the reservationist of any under age members in your party to determine how they may be accommodated.
- Shaving is recommended but not necessary for men prior to a facial. If you choose to have prior to your facial, be sure to do so at least two hours prior to the appointment; Shaving is not recommended prior to body treatments or hair removal services.
- Most body treatments are enjoyed without clothing. However, disposable undergarments are available on request. Spas practice professional draping and your modesty is respected at all times. If you would feel more comfortable, you may wear undergarments so that you can relax and enjoy your spa service. Robes and slippers are provided before treatments.
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled spa appointment time or 15 minutes prior for the salon. Please keep in mind that arriving late for a service may require the spa to shorten the length of the treatment, with full charges applied, so as not to inconvenience other guests. Mostly, late arrivals will not receive extension of scheduled appointments.
- You have the right to be treated with courtesy and respect and, in turn, you will treat staff and other guests with courtesy and respect
- Please communicate with your therapist your concerns, needs or desires. They will take the lead from you as to pressure of the massage; ensure that your aesthetician understands the concerns you have and the results you are looking for.
